When the Dot NET universal top-level domain extension was initially introduced in 1985, along with the first domain name extensions on the web, it was planned to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure firms. As there were no special conditions about the usage of the top-level extension, though, .NET domains were acquired and used for different purposes and by a lot of people. This TLD represents an ideal substitution for .COM, especially if the wanted domain with the latter TLD is not available for registration.
